Classic Fishing Tournament lineup

Three tournaments sponsored by Spirit of Tasmania and organised by the Tasmanian Sport Fisher magazine and Anglers Alliance Tasmania will qualify the Tasmanian winning team to compete for significant prizes in the National Bream Classic Championship held in New South Wales later this year.

In addition to the Bream Classic series, two rounds of the national ABT qualifying series will be held in Tasmania in February /March this year, qualifying the winners to compete in the Australian championship which carry significant prize money.

As well as these ABT tournaments the exclusively Tasmanian “Spirit of Tasmania Trout Classic” will be held on Great and Arthurs lakes in early March.

The competitions are judged by weight and all fish are returned to the water after weigh in. Large fish will be displayed in a glass tank before release.

Tasmania is acknowledged as the best bream fishery in Australia and the five annual competitions and the significant partnership with “Spirit of Tasmania” will enable Tasmania to be a major component of these national competitions.

Later Tasmanian rounds of the bream competitions are expected to attract up to 60 teams from around Australia and work to attract international competitors is underway.

These competitors often stay for up to two weeks enjoying Tasmania’s unique fishing resources in both salt and fresh water and are therefore significant contributors to our annual tourism spend.
